Bushfires are becoming more frequent and the bushfire season is lasting longer because of climate change.

Unless we act now to reduce our emissions in line with what climate science suggests, we will become locked in to ever worsening fire seasons.

Fire behaviour is changing, and changing for the worse. Climate change causes extreme weather, which in turn causes bushfires and other natural disasters. This is our workplace, and it is becoming more and more unsafe.

What We Do

Climate change. Unless we act now to reduce our emissions in line with what climate science suggests, we will become locked in to ever worsening fire seasons. We provide information on the link between global heating and fire risk.

Building a movement. We encourage fire fighters and others involved in first response to join together to advocate for greater ambition on climate action.

Sharing skills and contacts. As volunteer and career firefighters, we encourage our members to get in touch and to work with others who see the need for climate action.

The catastrophic, unprecedented fire conditions of 2019/20 were aggravated by climate change

Bushfire conditions are now more dangerous than in the past

The costs of fighting fires are increasing

There are reduced opportunities for fuel reduction burning

The government must develop an urgent plan to act on climate

Our new campaign

We want you to share your experience of being a fire fighter and how you can see fire seasons getting worse because of climate change. Meaningful action now will reduce risk later on.

  • take a photo of yourself/ your crew
  • Tag in the PM and Emergency Management minister and urge them to do more on climate
  • KEY MESSAGE: I’m on the frontline. I see that fire seasons are getting worse. Without climate action, it will only get worse. @ScottMorrisonMP @senbmckenzie – commit Australia to 75% emission reductions by 2030. #climatefire
  • post your photo and comment on any social media platform you use
  • tell your mates and get them involved
  • please also post your photo on our facebook page

The campaign will launch on MONDAY JANUARY 24, 2022.
